Face To Face With The Jellyfish
September 26th, 2011The Maui Ocean Center is really an attraction you should not miss. It’s the largest tropical aquarium in the whole of the United States. It is so large that it features a tunnel families can wander through under it. They can snap images of the fishes’ underbellies while at it. It is full of water from Ma’alaea Bay and it has hundreds and maybe thousands of marine life. You can observe all of them up close while you walk all the way through the tunnel. There are many sharks, rays and various other marine creatures there as well.
While in the tunnel, you can gaze at the ceiling and check out the fish frolic in the water above you. It’s the very best thing in the entire world, viewing all sorts of vibrant reef fish in their genuine coral reef habitats. Did I mention this particular aquarium has a world-class coral selection? It’s the largest on earth.
The Center even offers a most hypnotizing show of jellyfish in huge cylindrical columns. You can stay there for hours just watching those tentacles undulate lazily in their tanks.
Next you go along through the aquarium to the sea turtle holding tanks. These sea turtles happen to be wounded at some point in their existence and their stay at the aquarium is just a short-term one. They’ll be reintroduced into their natural habitat after they have recovered. This is my favorite exhibit in the aquarium. If you happen to go during feeding time you could feed the turtles. It is great to view these enormous docile animals chomping contentedly on their meal.
You can satisfy your fascination with whales at the center’s display of the huge animals. You can be sure that it is comprehensive as whale-watching is popular with many Hawaiians. The Turtle Bay Resort was actually built in a spot where whales are apparent during winter! The local people also share their knowledge and passion of the creatures by organizing whale-watching tours for guests. There’s nothing quite like seeing a whale blow if you are on a nearby ship!
One of the numerous attractions of the Maui Ocean Center is the touch pond, where kids can touch different fishes, sea stars, sea urchins and rays. It’s only a single example of the countless exhibits geared for youngsters. Every exhibit is a useful learning experience! Of course, teens and adults find plenty to be excited about in the Center as well.
Be sure to record this trip with your favorite recorder or digital camera. The dolphin statue in front of the Center is a famous location for photo shoots, and the sights of Ma’alaea Bay from the aquarium are incredibly moving. You are able to relax after inside the Center’s cafe, where you can order to your heart’s desire. The children in your group will surely enjoy the array of frozen treat flavors offered.
